Family Education and Counseling Services
Hina Mauka's Family Education and Counseling services are offered to family and friends of persons addicted to alcohol and other drugs. Participants learn about addictions and the effects of addiction on family and other relationships. The focus is on communication skills and ways to intervene, as well as options available to family and friends.

Alcoholism and drug addiction are diseases, which destroy not only individuals, but also entire families. Hina Mauka has established the Family Program to help friends and family members retrieve their own lives from the feelings of confusion, frustration, isolation and shame associated with having a family member who is damaging not only their lives but also the lives of everybody who is close to them.

Our Family Program classes are open to anyone who has an addicted family member or close friend, whether they are in recovery or not, and whether they are enrolled in a Hina Mauka program or not.

The dynamics of family interaction are discussed in a safe and supportive atmosphere. This helps family members to understand appropriate ways to deal, not only with addiction, but also with the changes that are brought on by the process of recovery.

The family may be powerless over the disease, but we can help them learn to make appropriate choices in reestablishing a healthier home environment for themselves and their loved ones. We can also help them to encourage the user to make choices that will benefit them all.
