Residential Program
Our primary job is to create a sanctuary where the individual can reintroduce some measure of sanity and basic life-skills into their lives. Rehabilitation is not a quick fix. It means changing the patterns of a lifetime. Residential treatment is a chance for people to set aside some time in a safe and stable environment for honest self-assessment of their alcohol and/or drug use, to learn about addiction, and how to live a more fulfilling life without drugs or alcohol.

There are a number of social, psychological and biological factors involved in the addiction process. None of these are greater than denial. Our greatest task is to encourage our clients to take an honest look themselves and begin to change any aspect of their thinking which leads to denial.

HINA MAUKA can also treat the individual with co-occurring diagnoses, such as a person with an alcohol problem and depression. To address this we develop an integrated therapy program tailored to the needs of each individual using a combination of personalized psychotherapy, group counseling and social rehabilitation.

The first step of any journey is the hardest one to take.

Outpatient Programs
Not everybody is able to take full advantage of residential treatment, and not everyone needs residential treatment. Clients are placed at the least restrictive level of care because research has determined that people have a better chance of recovery if they are in familiar surroundings, i.e. each person has to utilize the skills in their home environment.

There are two major reasons for this:

  1. We live in the real world. Some of our clients have families that need to be supported; our outpatient program allows people to keep working while in treatment.
  2. Children need to be parented or they simply don’t have the financial resources to make residential treatment a viable alternative
Day Treatment: Is the most intensive outpatient option. It is a full week schedule that offers the same treatment as residential. It’s an option for those with a more stable home life

Outpatient: The outpatient schedule is less intensive. Outpatient treatment is typically three days or nights a week for 3 hours per session.

Aftercare: Like our residential program, the end goal of outpatient treatment is the reintegration of the individual into society. This means helping each client to stabilize their lives while acquiring the skills, which are necessary for living life in recovery. This is what Aftercare is all about. Working in real-life situations with other real people is, perhaps, the most effective way of making that transition. Our clients participate in aftercare for up to 12 weeks following their discharge. The group meetings are once a week for 1 1/2 hours at a time.
